The GMP SideWinder Trailer-Mounted Fiber Optic Puller is a heavy-duty, precision-engineered winch designed to exceed the demands of underground telecommunication and high-density fiber optic cable installation. Its 42-inch diameter single capstan provides smooth, controlled pulling tension to rope or tape, allowing long cable runs while minimizing strain on fiber cables. Designed for professional field use, the SideWinder offers exceptional control, mobility, and versatility in cable pulling operations.
The large single capstan design allows the winch to be placed at midpoints of a run to assist with intermediate pulls, enabling installers to complete longer, continuous pulls with minimal setup. Powered by a reliable GX390 Honda engine with electric key start, choke, and throttle conveniently located on the operator’s control panel, the SideWinder ensures safe, ergonomic operation with all controls positioned away from moving lines. Additionally, the system’s quick-disconnect hydraulics enable the user to power auxiliary tools such as a hydraulic dewatering pump or Tornado Fiber Optic Blowing machine, further enhancing its on-site versatility.
Features:
- The SideWinder’s capstan is angled at 30°, allowing operators to figure-8 the cable for safe handling and tangle-free operation
- Operator-friendly controls include a spring-centered lever for capstan rotation, a detented lever for take-drum engagement, and a control knob for setting cable tension via the integrated panel-mounted indicator
- Mounted on a durable all-steel fabricated chassis featuring torsional suspension axles, stabilizing prop legs, a telescopic jockey wheel, and a tow bar with Lunette Ring for secure towing
- Weighing only 1500 lbs, the trailer can be easily towed by a standard pickup truck for maximum portability
- Powered by a commercial-grade Honda GX390 gasoline engine offering proven reliability and fuel efficiency
- The engine drives tandem-mounted, fixed-displacement hydraulic pumps—one powering the capstan through an in-line planetary gearbox and the other powering the rope take-up drum
- Hydraulic oil tank equipped with dual filtration, sight glass, and filler/breather for clean, efficient operation
- Removable, split rope take-up drum allows for fast rope removal and maintenance; the capstan swivels 90° from the working to the transit position for compact towing configuration
- Rear stabilizing props extend outward for increased stability and balance during cable pulling operations
