The TM-500 is line-powered - no batteries required - so it's always ready when you clip on. The working feature set covers the daily punch list: LED-indicated polarity test, tone and pulse dialing for any exchange, 10-number speed dial, 32-digit last-number redial with pause, adjustable volume with mute, and flash for timed break recall. Over-voltage and over-current protection means a crossed pair costs you a moment, not a test set. Even the keypad is field-thought-out: it's luminescent, so it glows in a dark pedestal or crawlspace.

Hands-free is in the box: use it as a handset, or plug in the included headset and keep both hands on the punchdown.
