Field-terminating fiber used to mean epoxy, polishing pucks, and a prayer — Tempo's SC/APC mechanical connector replaces all of it with a termination that takes less than one minute.
Designed for fast, simple field termination of 3 mm jacketed single-mode fiber cable, it needs no polishing and no epoxy: cleave the fiber, insert, and the mechanical splice inside does the rest against a factory-polished stub.
The optics are built around a precision, high-quality zirconia ceramic ferrule.
Typical insertion loss runs at or below 0.2 dB, and return loss meets or exceeds 55 dB for the APC (angled physical contact) polish — the green-connector geometry that FTTH, PON, and RF-over-glass networks demand, where back reflection is the enemy. The result is a field connector whose numbers hold their own in a live optical budget.
Up to five re-assemblies are possible — which changes the economics of a bad cleave.
Where a botched fusion-spliced pigtail or single-shot fast connector goes in the trash, this one comes apart and re-terminates.
